Engineer - Planning and Systems (maximum-term until December 2019)

This maximum-term role within a specialist team, you will be responsible for the provision of technical advice and policy direction to internal service providers and the development industry in relation to water supply and sewerage systems.

The position requires a strong understanding of development to provide analytical assessment of development applications in respect of water supply and wastewater services.  Your written communication skills will be required for comprehensive reports for Council in a clear, concise and balanced manner, whilst answering and providing advice on development engineering matters requiring your sound engineering judgement.   The successful candidate will liaise and coordinate development with internal customers from the various divisions of Council.

Developing and maintaining water and sewerage growth related strategic investment programs and in providing specialist advice in relation to pressure, flow and capacity of Council’s Water Supply Conveyancing and Reticulation System and Sewerage Reticulation and Conveyancing Systems.

We are seeking:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) eligible for National Professional Engineers Register 3 (NPER-3)
  • Well-developed experience in water and wastewater infrastructure planning and design
  • Competence in assessment of engineering design in a development context
  • Demonstrated use of computer hydraulic modelling packages.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

  3. Well developed experience in water and wastewater infrastructure planning and design.
  4. Demonstrated well developed research, analysis, creative problem solving and program implementation ability and skills.
  5. Demonstrated competence in assessment of engineering design in a development context.
  6. Demonstrated intermediate competence in the use of computer hydraulic modelling packages such as Innovyze software or similar and spreadsheets to produce mathematical models.
  7. Well developed ability to communicate in written and spoken English including the ability to draft reports, project plans, Council submissions and letters to a high standard.
  8. Experience in preparing budgets for and implementing works programs and preparing briefs for engaging consultants.

Desirable:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of Local Government engineering.
  2. Experience in interaction with the development industry on engineering issues.
  3. Knowledge of legislation and regulations which impinge on the key function of the Unit.
  4. An understanding of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and their use in an infrastructure engineering environment.
  5. WorkCover WHS Induction Training for Construction Work.
